In a society where loads of information are constantly being poured into our minds it is easy to forget certain things as new things keep flooding in. The busy pace of life we have created for ourselves today brings a new level of forgetfulness to a new level with the simplest things being forgotten. Jesus told His disciples that a Helper was coming that would be poured upon them, and that the Helper would help them remember as well as guide them along their journeys through this crazy, fallen world.
“These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” (John 14:25-26 NKJV).
I know I personally have much trouble in this area of remembering and forgetting things. My ADD, of course does not help me in this area as I tend to have a million thoughts run through my mind daily with hopes to at least remember a fraction of them. I tend to forget some of the simplest things that most people seem to remember with ease. With all the forgetting I still seem to remember much of the word of God as the Holy Spirit reminds me daily with certain commands and verses throughout the day that correlate right with what I am doing or experiencing.
God spoke through the prophet Jeremiah concerning this future of full glorification of the Lord by writing within the hearts and minds of believers the commands and word of God. When we have the Holy Spirit truly dwelling within our hearts and minds we then can remember the word of God. We can remember to pray for others, to help others, and to seek to please God above all else.
“But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.” (Jeremiah 31:33).
Now I am not saying we will not forget those things from time to time, but you can be rest assured that the Holy Spirit will eventually remind you. This is one of the reasons it is so important to stay in close communion with the Lord and to live and walk in the Spirit daily. Being sensitive to the Spirit allows us to feel the prompting and call of the Holy Spirit working in and through our lives.
“We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.” (1 John 4:6).
If you keep forgetting just ask the Lord to bring to your remembrance His word and truth. Ask Him to reveal, through His Spirit, what it is that you need to do and where you need to go. Maybe there is someone that the Lord wants you to pray for or to talk to about certain problems to help impart spiritual wisdom to them in a dire time of need. Remember to stay in close fellowship with the Holy Spirit each day as He guides you along your journey through this life unto the next. God bless!
