I am a spice addict, or at least that is what my wife calls me. I tend to add spice to every meal, whether it be breakfast, lunch, snack or just cause. Spice seems to really enhance the flavors of all foods as it creates a bit of a bite of fire as well as a sense of euphoria. As I was eating a recent spicy meal I began to think about how life is like a meal and sometimes, you just need to spice things up!
I see a lot of people today go through the same routine day in and day out with no real joy within their life. People that follow this pattern tend to become bitter, cold and rigid with the sense of love long gone from their lives. Over and over they repeat the same routine and ultimately end up boxing themselves in allowing a type of fear inside themselves that holds them back from doing anything outside the routine or experiencing life itself.
“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13 NKJV).
God did not call us to fear but to a newness of life, being filled with His love, joy and peace. And the way we experience this newness of life is by spicing things up. Try something new, go outside and experience the nature that God has blessed you with. Take a spontaneous trip somewhere or change up careers. Now, of course this newness of life does not have to be as dramatic for some as others, but their still should be a change.
Even small changes to our daily routines can cause a feeling of newness as we get out of our comfort zones and into the realm of unknown. Take a different route to work, eat somewhere different, grab a different type of coffee or tea, and this list goes on from there. I have realized, personally, that God speaks to me when I get out of my comfort zone, rather than staying in it. He always seems to meet us in odd places that we never thought of before as our spiritual senses are heightened during uncomfortable situations and surroundings.
“Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” (Romans 6:4)
Wherever you may stand today, if you feel like life is growing dull and that you are turning bitter, then take a step outside and get some fresh air. Go ahead and spice things up by making small changes to your daily routine or big changes if need be. Watch as a newness of life itself begins to manifest itself and God begins to speak to your heart more than before. Heightened your spiritual senses by spicing things up in life and feel the heat of the Almighty presence of God working in and through your life. Have a blessed day!
