Everything Takes Time

In a world of instant everything it is difficult to be patient. Over time I have to understand more and more how everything takes time. No matter how much you work or how hard you try, everything takes time in order to grow and prosper in the correct manner. God wants us to be patient as we wait on Him to open doors and to lead us to the right place at the right time.

“But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31 NKJV).

A great and simple example for growth in proper time is a tree. A tree begins out as a small seed and grows into a giant tree with the help of fertile ground and proper watering. But even with good ground and watering it still takes time in order for it to grow from a seed into a giant tree. No matter how much you water or fertilize, it still takes time to grow. The same applies to us Christians as we walk with God and grow in Him and this growth requires good soil, watering and time.

Jesus gave us an example of growth as he stated that those who grow and mature in Him are the seed, word of God, which fell on good soil and grew into great trees. We can all grow into great trees that are called in Christ by building a foundation on Him, reading the word each day and coming to know Him day by day, and of course all of this combined along with time equals exceptional growth.

“But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.” (Luke 8:15).

The key to growing and prospering in Christ is patience. Without it we will not survive, but will ultimately over water to a point of exhaustion and die spiritually. It is good to work hard, but do not work so hard that you end up moving ahead of the Lord. He guides us according to His eternal plan and no matter what we do, we will not speed up His plan, if anything we will hinder and alter the plan adding more time needed to grow.

There are so many teachers now days that proclaim the name it and claim it gospel where you demand things from God, and this is absolute poppycock! God is not a genie and we can not demand anything from God as we are His servants and not the other way around. God wants to prosper us, but all in due time according to His good will and pleasure. Rushing things is only a part of self and fleshly ambition.

“You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.” (James 4:3).

When we are born again we become a new creation in Christ in which we let go of selfish ambitions. This letting go requires strength that can only come from God and a close walk with Him while living in His Spirit. The Holy Spirit helps us crucify this old part and sometimes this is accomplished by withholding certain blessing in order to teach us patience and self control. Think back real quick to the last time you prayed for something and did not receive it until the time was right. Maybe you had to wait years in order to receive it?

Now sometimes when we do not receive when we pray, it is not because we do not have enough faith, but rather it is either not the right time or it is not the right thing, or path that God wants you on. No matter how many times you beat on a door, if God does not open it, it may mean it is not he right time or you do not need to go through that door. Always remember to let it be His will and not your will be done with patience and a humble spirit.

“Knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” (James 1:3-4).

I know personally for me I have been learning over the years to stop rushing things and to be patient. No matter how hard I pushed the blessings and growth in Christ were not going to occur except within the time frame established by the hand of God. This is why it is so important to live and walk in the Spirit, being sensitive to the direction and voice of God being pressed upon our hearts and minds. God is good and will lift us up in due time according to His good will and purpose. Continue to water and to build upon God and His word while remaining patient and humble throughout this life unto the next.
