If You Don’t Like The Channel, Then Change It

There are times in life that we find ourselves in a position, job, relationship, and so forth that we really do not like. Each day presents another day of despair and regret that only digs us further into a hole that we really want to climb out of. Many people are in this type of place right now, possibly sitting at their desk at a job that absolutely dread being at, but continue on because it pays the bills. Believe me, I understand.

For many years I have struggled with the same thing as far as the job front goes. The pay is good, benefits are good and job security was good as it was my families own business, but I hate it. Everyday is like walking into a bacteria filled environment for me. It is not the people by no means or that the job is just horrible in itself, but rather because it does not fit who I am and no matter how hard I try I can not fit into it.

After much prayer, meditation and thought on this topic I figured out that, just like many other people in a similar situation, the only way out is to change the channel you are currently on. We have the power to do so, especially when we have God empowering us.

For many years I felt guilty that I did not like my job and some people I asked for advice from insisted that I just deal with it, but no matter how I approached it it just did not make sense. It was not for me and to say that I should just humble myself to a point of misery for the rest of my life does not sound like God’s blessings to me.

Finally one day recently it came to me, I do not have to stay there if I do not want to. I can change the channel if I really feel it to be necessary. The only catch to this paradigm is the fact that it will take a lot of hard work and sacrifice to do so. No matter where you are at in this situation it will require sacrifice, hard work and some heart breaks to do what you feel God has put within your heart.

“He also brought me out into a broad place; He delivered me because He delighted in me.” (2 Samuel 22:20 NKJV).

God did not call us to be miserable and believe me there are times when we should humble ourselves and not be spoiled brats, and there are times when you just need to move on. It is up to you and how you feel the Lord is calling you, what He is pressing upon your heart to do in the situation your in. You can seek as much advice through people and research, but ultimately it is going to be your call and how you feel within your heart.

Taking risk in life is the key to moving forward and ultimately bringing glory to God. Without risk we only sit in fear with hopes that someone will pull us out of the fire after it has already consumed us. Do not get me wrong we should take calculated risk, but finding the balance between calculated and not moving is the key to success.

“If indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.” (Ephesians 4:21-24).

It is kind of like saying that an unbeliever should wait and take calculated risk when giving his life over to Christ. Maybe he should sit for a while and really think it over, then work a few years in the current fallen condition towards a final decision in which he gives his life over to Jesus. When in reality the moment the Spirit moves on the individual to give his life he should give his life! No need to spend years thinking about whether or not he should do it as he already heard the risk and benefits that come with it, so no need to hold back anymore and instead move forward in faith leaving behind the old miserable life.

The similar principle applies to the situations we have been talking about. You know the risk and benefits, you know what you feel within your heart and when you feel the Holy Spirit move you, then you need to move! Let go of the miserable state you were in and move into a new area of calling, not to say there will not be hard times, but the benefits will far out way the old life of misery you were once in. Sometimes holding on is the cancer that kills us rather than just letting go and move forward into the unknown adventure that awaits us. Live in victory and not defeat. If you do not like the channel your on, then change it!
