There are two different kinds of simple spoken of in the Bible, one being devoid of understanding and the other being a type of lifestyle. Several times the Word commands us and instructs to stay away from the path of the simple minded as it only leads to destruction, while on the other hand it exhorts living a simple lifestyle in which we live peaceably among people and not live luxurious lifestyles.
“The LORD preserves the simple; I was brought low, and He saved me.” (Psalms 116:6 NKJV)
“O you simple ones, understand prudence, And you fools, be of an understanding heart.” (Proverbs 8:5 NKJV)
The simple minded have no depth to their thinking and understanding. The simple at heart obtain wisdom, understanding and knowledge through God’s word and by the discernment of the Holy Spirit speaking within our hearts and minds.
“that you also aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you, that you may walk properly toward those who are outside, and that you may lack nothing.” (I Thessalonians 4:11-12 NKJV)
In a world and society where simplicity is frowned upon we need to stand firm and embrace a simpler way of life. When the world goes crazy, we remain calm. When society spoiled brats, we praise God for His goodness. When the world stumble over their own devices, we walk in simplicity on top of the water.
