The Comparison Game

If you added up the amount of time some of us waste away comparing ourselves to others, it would absolutely terrify you. Day after day many of us find ourselves comparing our lives, our achievements with other people that we may or may not even know personally. With the additive of social media now days it is even more prominent to compare with people they we do not even see but on social media.

“Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually. And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.”

‭‭I Corinthians‬ ‭12:27-31‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Comparing to others is a killer, a killer of any self worth and an invitation for depression. The rate of depression has increased over the years especially in the younger generations, and a lot of this can be factored in from social media use and comparison to others. People look happy and excited on social media and this triggers the mind in others as, “why am I not happy like these people?”

Trying to compare to others is an unrealistic view of how life should be as we are all created with different gifts and for different paths. How can you compare with another when you are not headed down the same path? And if you are headed down the same path then you need to reevaluate and change course because God has set each person on a path that is uniquely designed for that particular individual and that fits that individuals gifts.

Who are you comparing with today? Stop and reevaluate why you would be comparing. Understand that you are on your own path and you have your own gifts to utilize. Let go of comparing and go forth utilizing the gifts within you by the power of the Holy Spirit.
