There are times that we find ourselves serving the Lord only because we feel we have to. We go to church, we tell others about Jesus, we volunteer, and so on while inside we really do not want to. We sing praise onto God, and yet our lips move but our heart stand still. This type of worship and service is a problem often overlooked, and yet is a very crucial sickness of the soul.
“Therefore the Lord said: “Inasmuch as these people draw near with their mouths And honor Me with their lips, But have removed their hearts far from Me, And their fear toward Me is taught by the commandment of men,”
Isaiah 29:13 NKJV
When we find ourselves seeping over into the “lip service syndrome,” this is a time to stop doing things and start being still. It is a time to go off by ourselves and be alone with God. It is a time of connection, meditation and reflection with God and on His word. It is a time to be refreshed and filled with the Holy Spirit.
Times like these are not times to condemn ourselves by no means as we are only human and we live in fleshly bodies, and thus it is easy to drift away from the Spirit if not careful. It is up to is, though, to realize we have drifted and to redirect our focus on the One that can bring us back to where we need to be. Moments of silent prayer with God always does the trick as we connect back with Him and are filled with His Spirit. At that moment we become healed from the lip service syndrome and seep back into the Spirit filled servant that we have been called to be.
Do you feel yourself drifting? Are you suffering from the lip service syndrome? Take time alone with God and get connected with Him and His Spirit, and watch the power seep back into your life again. Have a wonderful Monday and God bless!
